Deep TMS™ – Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Deep TMS™) is a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate brain regions involved in mood regulation.

Unlike standard TMS, Deep TMS™ uses advanced coil technology to reach deeper and broader brain structures, helping regulate neural activity associated with depression.

Deep TMS™ is FDA-cleared for:

  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Smoking cessation

It is most commonly used for patients who have not responded to medications

You may be a candidate if you:

  • Have depression that hasn’t improved with medication
  • Cannot tolerate medication side effects
  • Prefer a non-drug treatment option

Eligibility is determined during a clinical evaluation and may depend on insurance criteria.

During treatment:

  • A cushioned helmet is placed on your head
  • Magnetic pulses are delivered to targeted brain areas
  • You remain awake and seated

Most patients relax, read, or use their phone during treatment.

Patients typically feel:

  • A tapping sensation on the scalp
  • Mild pressure during pulses
  • A clicking sound (earplugs are provided)

These sensations usually become more comfortable after the first few sessions.

  •  Sessions last about 20 minutes
  • Treatments are typically done 5 days per week
  • A full course lasts about 4–6 weeks

Some patients may benefit from maintenance sessions afterward.
